Kae Tokiro, the mother of Kenichi Tokiro and grandmother of Yae Tokiro. is the last resident in the Valley of the World Tree. While all other survivors fled the valley when Automated Warrior's took over, Kae stayed behind to defend the magic-fueled explosive that remained sealed there, as it would provide a huge source of energy for the Warriors.
